Hello there! Welcome to Confident. We're not just building the world’s best Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) here; we're knitting together a vibrant team that's at the heart of everything we do. Our goal is simple: to create an environment where mutual respect and excitement about our shared journey flourish. So, we've designed a hiring process that's all about getting to know each other. It's a path that lets us discover if we're a good match, and it's tailored to give you a real taste of life at Confident.

A Little About Us

At Confident, we envision a world where accessible and reliable analytical testing enhances transparency across supply chains, thereby enabling businesses and policy-makers to make better decisions that foster the well-being of people and the planet.

Confident makes analytical testing efficient, accessible, and impactful by empowering labs and their clients with purpose-built technology & services. We do this by striving to build the best Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in the world.

Today, Confident is the #1 lab testing platform in the US legal cannabis industry, and is trusted by analytical labs across several other industries, including agriculture, food & beverage, nutraceuticals, and environmental industries.

We are committed to creating software that not only facilitates but enhances the vital work of analytical testing laboratories. Our software is designed to be an extension of the lab itself, so seamlessly integrated into the workflow that it feels like a natural part of the scientific process

To realize this vision, we invest in assembling a dream team, comprising individuals who are not just adept in their function, but who also have deep expertise in the specific industries we serve. This ensures that every interaction with our system and team is smooth, intuitive, and tailored to the unique needs of each lab. But beyond our technical prowess, what truly sets Confident apart is our culture — the bedrock upon which our team stands — and our ongoing commitment to evolve and grow as a team, so that we can continue being the indispensable partner that labs around the world rely on.

The Hiring Process

We're keen on building a team that's as varied and vibrant as the work we do. When we consider bringing on someone new, we're genuinely interested in who you are. We test for skills, yes, but we're equally interested in your approach to problem-solving, how you adapt to new situations, and how you align with the values we hold dear. We appreciate the journey that's led you to this point. The paths you've taken, the challenges you've overcome, and the experiences you've collected matter to us. They say a lot about what you bring to the table beyond just your professional skills.

Our hiring journey is as much about you discovering whether Confident is the right place for your talents and dreams as it is about us recognizing your potential to contribute to our collective story. It's a path walked with mutual respect, a shared understanding, and an excitement for what the future holds. Here's how we ensure that both of us are making the best decision:

Step 1: Getting to Know You

We believe that every great professional relationship starts with a genuine connection, and that's what we aim to establish here. You'll have a friendly, informal chat over Zoom with our CEO & Founder, @Steve Albarran. He’ll give you an overview of our company, team dynamics, and unique culture, and provide insights into the role you're interviewing for and how it contributes to our mission. But this isn't just about us – it's about you, too! Steve is eager to learn about your personal and professional journey, the experiences that have shaped you, and the skills and passions you bring. This is your chance to showcase not just what you've done, but who you are and what drives you.

Our goal is for both you and Steve to have a clear sense of whether there's a potential fit between you and our company. We don't believe in rigid "culture fit," but rather in finding individuals who can add their unique perspectives to our diverse team. So, come as you are, share your story, and let's take the first step in getting to know each other. We're excited to learn more about you and explore how we might work together to achieve great things!

Step 3: Meet the Team

After submitting your assignment, our team will review your work and aim to provide a response within 5 business days regarding the next steps. If successful, we will invite you to a 3-hour virtual on-site session, which is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of your fit for the role and Confident. This session consists of two main components: an assignment Q&A and individual 1-on-1 conversations with various team members, including the team lead.

Assignment Q&A: During this segment, you will discuss your submitted work with different team members. You'll have the opportunity to explain your thought process and the strategies you employed to tackle the tasks. This is your chance to demonstrate your problem-solving abilities and how you approach challenges, which are crucial qualities we look for in our team members. It's also a moment for our team to provide feedback and ask questions that delve deeper into your technical and critical thinking skills.

1-on-1 Conversations: These are focused on getting to know each other better. Each conversation is a chance for you to ask any questions you have about the company and for us to learn more about you. You’ll be able to get a better sense of what it’s like being on our team and working at Confident. Meanwhile, it gives us a better sense of how well you align with our values and whether Confident is the right fit for you. We encourage you to be open and candid about your goals, expectations, and what you hope to achieve at Confident.

Step 4: Final Chat

After the Virtual On-site, we'll let you know within a few days if you're moving on to the final stage: a final chat with our CEO and Co-Founder, Steve. This isn't just another interview step but a chance for us to really connect. It's about seeing if we’re both excited about working together.

You don't need to prepare formally for this conversation. We value what makes you unique, from your personal experiences to your professional skills. So, just be yourself! Share your passions and show us how you can make our team even better. Steve is eager to hear about your goals and how you see yourself contributing to our mission. You should both leave this chat excited about the possibilities ahead!

We'll get back to you within 2-5 work days with an update on the next steps in the process. Whether it's an invitation to join our team or a decision to move forward with other candidates, we'll provide clear communication and feedback. We really appreciate your time and effort throughout this process.

<aside> 👋 Hi, I'm Steve! Congrats on making it through the interview process so far! We know our process might be more involved than interviews at many other companies, but I hope you enjoyed meeting our team and had the opportunity to fully demonstrate why you're the best person for the role.

I firmly believe that the best perk we can give our teammates is the chance to work with other amazing people. That's why we take hiring so seriously. We're a small, fully-distributed team of high performers with even higher expectations and ambitious goals. We've built a unique culture that gives each teammate a ton of autonomy and empowerment to achieve their goals wherever and however they like.

But this kind of "distributed agency" management structure only works if everyone on the team is highly aligned with our company's goals and values, and each person is exceedingly competent and self-motivated. To attract and retain the superstars that thrive in our environment, we pay well, promote quickly, and (most importantly) reward ourselves by only working with other awesome people.

If you've made it this far in the process, you're clearly very qualified for the role, and the interview team really liked you. Our 1:1 conversation is mostly designed for us to get to know each other better and make sure we're both even more excited about working together. There's no need to prepare, other than any questions you might have for me. We don't look for "culture fit," we look for "culture add," so just bring your true self and show me the person you'd bring to work every day.

Step 5: Share Your Thoughts

We're always looking for ways to improve our hiring process and create the best possible experience for our candidates. Once we've made a decision, we'd appreciate your thoughts on the process. Please take a few minutes to share your feedback, suggestions, and any areas where we could improve. Your input will help us refine our approach and ensure future candidates have an even better experience.
